I don’t really think anyone today understands the actual benefits of making time for themselves. We live in a world where we want everything to be instant, but the truth is there are just some things in life that we need to work for. I’m not talking about money or mansions here, I’m talking about the things that really matter. You know, things like the smile on our kids’ faces or being able to wake up in the morning looking forward to a new day (yes, it is possible to have a happy morning!). These are just simple little things that define us and give our life meaning.
I mentioned earlier that there are things we need to ‘work’ for, but the ‘work’ I speak of isn’t hard labour, it’s making an investment. Not money or anything, no, I’m talking about the most valuable thing that none of us seem to have much of nowadays. Yes, you guessed it, TIME. All we need to do as busy 21st century mums is put aside a little bit of time for ourselves to help us to unwind and renew our positive energy. Make it your mission to achieve this by promising yourself something like 10-15 minutes of complete silence after the children are in bed to put your feet up and do what ever relaxes your mind. It doesn’t matter what you do, it can be a simple thing like reading a couple of pages of a book you like, lying back with a face mask or maybe even practicing some calm breathing techniques. Whatever it is you decide on, just make sure it helps you forget about all the hustle and bustle of your day and that you feel like yourself again, so that you can go to bed fully stress-free with a fresh mind. Take each day as it comes and once the day is over, leave it. Wake up the next morning with a smile and be full of appreciation and love.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that when we feel like ourselves and feel genuinely peaceful on the inside, it shows on the outside, we look like a happier person (we also glow and I know every woman wants to glow) and our children can feel our positive energy too, which makes them happy. It’s all just one big mushy happy cycle okay :).
HOWEVER, if all fails and your home is overtaken by little people with more power than you, then by all means, grab a big mug of coffee and your make-up bag and do what you need to do to stay sane.
